A PERSONAL CELEBRATION: MY DAUGHTER’S FIRST COMMUNION PORTRAITS
Photographing my own daughter’s first communion portraits was one of the sweetest and most meaningful experiences I have had as both a photographer and a mama. I wanted her to feel completely relaxed and able to enjoy every part of her special celebration, so we decided to photograph her portraits on a separate date from the ceremony. This allowed us to keep the actual communion day focused on the moment itself without any pressure or rush to fit in photos. It was the best decision. We were able TO be present and enjoy every second of her milestone.
For her portrait session, we chose Preto Loft in the West Side Studio, a space I adore for its soft light and warm atmosphere. It was the perfect setting to capture all of her delicate details. Before photographing her portraits, I spent time documenting the special pieces she would wear for her ceremony. Her dress, veil, rosary, gloves, purse, shoes, and jewelry were all carefully arranged and photographed so that every meaningful element could be remembered. Each piece held sentimental value, and capturing them felt like preserving tiny pieces of her story.
When she stepped into the studio wearing her full outfit, she looked absolutely beautiful. Her smile was gentle, her excitement was genuine, and her presence filled the room with so much sweetness. Photographing her in this setting allowed me to slow down and truly appreciate the moment. I captured her soft expressions, her quiet confidence, and the innocence of this milestone that she had been looking forward to.
Our family later celebrated with an intimate dinner at Vesuvio Ristorante on another day, which allowed us to enjoy the occasion without any stress. Surrounded by loved ones, delicious food, and warm conversation, it was the perfect way to honor her first communion.
This entire experience reminded me OF why I love what I do. Photography freezes moments that move far too quickly, and these memories of my daughter will forever hold a special place in my heart.
